Neil Van Stavern, DVM, Practice Owner
Dr. Neil Van Stavern has been practicing veterinary medicine in College Station for 36 years. After years of instructing at the Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine, he opened his private practice in 1982. He is the only private practice veterinarian in Bryan/College Station who is board certified in Internal Medicine. Dr. Van Stavern has a special interest in canine preventative medicine, internal medicine, and endoscopy. Dr. Van Stavern is currently available for appointments on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00am to 2:00pm.
Dr. Laura Bay-Williams, DVM
Dr. Laura Bay-Williams graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in May 1999. She has been practicing at Van Stavern Small Animal Hospital since 2001. Dr. Bay has a special interest in surgery, feline and canine preventative medicine, dentistry and ultrasound.
Dr. Staci Dennis, DVM
Dr. Staci Dennis, a Summa Cum Laude graduate from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine, graduated first in her class in May of 2007. She has been practicing at Van Stavern Small Animal Hospital since graduating. Dr. Dennis has a special interest in surgery, internal medicine and feline and canine preventative medicine.
Dr. Joseph Swartz
We are happy to announce the addition of Dr. Joseph Swartz to our veterinary team. Dr. Joseph Swartz graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in May 2016. He started as a veterinary assistant at Van Stavern Small Animal Hospital in 2010, and has returned to join the Van Stavern Small Animal Hospital team as a veterinarian. Dr. Swartz has a special interest in dentistry, surgery, canine and feline preventative medicine, and feline nutrition. In his free time he enjoys movie nights, outdoor activities, and spending time with his wife and two cats, Aces and Hobbes. Dr. Swartz and our veterinary staff look forward to seeing you and your pets in the future.
Lori has been our devoted practice manager since 1999. When Lori is away from the office you will find her spending time with her family or playing soccer with friends. She has two spoiled rotten dogs; Duo a husky mix and Maggie an Australian shepherd. As well as three domestic shorthairs named Smudge, Foster, and Raven.
Lisa Hunziker, Office Assistant
Lisa works with our practice manager, Lori, and Dr. Van Stavern to assist in the hiring process and employee relations. She also assists our bookkeeper with invoicing, accounts receivable and manages payroll. Outside of the office Lisa enjoys volunteering, spending time with her family and loving on her handsome boxer named Jim Bob and a surly orange tabby named Queso.
Sarah O., Head Technician
Sarah has been working with Van Stavern Small Animal Hospital since May of 2013. She is a Certified Veterinary Assistant and is currently taking classes with AAHA Cedar Valley College to become a licensed veterinary technician. Sarah is also the trusted pet sitter of many of our clients. When she is not working at the hospital she is on the road working as a pet sitter for her own company Love’em N Leave’em Pet Sitting. Sarah is the loving mom of her schnauzer mix Henry and her two adorable kitties Charlie and Push Pop.
Diorella, Head Technician
Diorella graduated from A&M in 2001 with a degree in Animal Science. Diorella previously worked at Van Stavern Small Animal Hospital in 2000 and started working with us again in October of 2006. She enjoys spending time with her family and pets. Diorella has a boxer named Harper, a german shepherd named Hugo and two cats named Sissy and O’Malley.
Brian has been working with Van Stavern Small Animal Hospital since September 2011. Brian enjoys the outdoors! On his days off you will find him rock climbing, hiking or camping. Brian also loves to travel and is always looking for new learning opportunities and hobbies. Brian has two cats; Tsugumi- a female red short hair tabby, and Grendel- a male brown and white tabby.
Leslie is a graduate from Blinn’s Veterinary Technology Program and has been a Registered Veterinary Technician since September 2013. Leslie has a passion for rescuing animals. She has two cats and a dog; Rowan- who was abandoned at 5 days old, and Lt. Dan Taylor- a sweet three-legged kitty, and Chance- a shepherd/lab mix. When Leslie isn’t hard at work she enjoys volunteering with SIRE, a therapeutic horseback riding program as well as maintaining a 55 gallon tropical fish aquarium.
Renee is a a licensed veterinary technician and has been a major asset to our technician team. She graduated from Bel-Rea Institute in 2009 and has worked in Colorado and Germany before her time here at Van Stavern Small Animal Hospital. Renee enjoys running and spending time with her family, but her baking skills are what we love the most!
Kim is a graduate of Texas A&M University and has been working with us since March. She has worked as a veterinary assistant in Victoria and Dickinson, Texas previously and we are so happy that she has joined our team. Kim is one of the hardest workers we know and is always willing and ready to help wherever she is needed.
